NEWS 2024: HARVEY CUP & SADLBA FINALS

SADLBA FINALS DAY 2024

This year, The St. Albans and District Ladies Bowls Association Finals was held at North Mymms Bowls Club over two days, 8th and 9th September.  It was a great day for North Myyms with many of our ladies playing and then bringing some trophies.

The North Mymms Ladies had a vested interest as they were in three of the Finals. The first to be played was the Triples League, where the Winner of Section A, North Mymms, played the Winner of Section B, Harperbury. Two Teams from each Club played each other and everything went down to the last Wood bowled, with North Mymms being the victor 28-27.

The second game to be played was The Double Rink. A knockout game played throughout the season, one which had eluded North Mymms for many years by getting knocked out in the early rounds. This year they met Batchwood Hall in the Final and it was another close game. Alas, Batchwood Hall were the victors, winning 32-29.

It was a different story when Pam Bond and Barbara Valle from North Mymms met Pam Rodgers and Gill Marshall from Potters Bar to play the Final of The Australian Pairs. Pam and Barbara won both sets 9-7 and 9-5.

Pictures here and in the Gallery.

Special thanks go to Karen King for her organisational skills with the many Club helpers who turned up on the day to set up rinks, manage car parking, organise refreshments and so on and so on throughout the day.

THE HARVEY CUP 2024

The August Bank Holiday Saturday started wet and continued so, throughout the day.   Forty eight Lady Bowlers from Northaw and Cuffley, North Mymms and Potters Bar all met at the Northaw and Cuffley Bowls Club to play their Annual fixture for the Harvey Cup.

The Ladies played in the rain, coming off the Green for a short time, during a heavy downpour. Going back out it was decided to finish the game after twelve ends instead of the usual eighteen. The outcome was a win for North Mymms on three of their four rinks. Potters Bar won on two rinks and Northaw and Cuffley on one rink.

This is the third time in four years that North Mymms Ladies have brought home the Trophy.  Prior to 2021 they had not won it since 1997.
Thanks go to Northaw and Cuffley for hosting the Game and providing a two course meal. We look forward to meeting next year at Potters Bar and, hopefully, better Bowling weather.

At Potters Bar Bowls Club, the men from the three Clubs played for the Jarvis cup. After two ends their match was abandoned, due to bad weather.
