AUSTRALIAN PAIRS
The annual Australian pairs game was played on Sunday 26th June, for the Bob Fowler Trophy. 24 Players took part and the scattered showers made it challenging. It was great to see some of our newer members taking part and enjoying the afternoon. Each team played 4 sets of 4 ends, moving to different rinks with each set. There was a spider to begin with, raising money for the Blind Association, which Peter Stokes won.
The winners were Irene O'Brien partnering Bryan Thomas who happens to be a new bowelr to the Club Well done to them both. The runners up this year were Anne Slade and Kevin O’Brien.
A lovely day was rounded off afterwards by super hot dogs prepared by Karen King.
NETHERCOTT TROPHY 2024
Another great win for North Mymms!
On Friday, 10th May, teams from Potters Bar, Harperbury and North Mymms Bowls Clubs played their Annual fixture for the Nethercott Trophy. Four teams from each Club met at Harperbury Bowls Club all hoping to carry off the Trophy.
This fixture has been generously sponsored, since 2012 by Nethercott Funeral Services, who have offices in Potters Bar and Radlett. Charles Nethercott, who has retired from the business, came along with daughters Charlotte and Victoria to watch the game and present the Trophy to the Winners.
Always an enjoyable afternoon with much camaraderie amongst the players, it is a fixture that everyone is keen to play. For the second year running, North Mymms walked away with the Trophy, winning on 3 Rinks and Losing on 1 Rink. Harperbury won on 2 Rinks and Lost on 2 Rinks. Potters Bar won on 1 Rink and lost on 3 Rinks. All of this was rounded off by a meal provided by Harperbury and funded by the Nethercotts as well making a generous donation to each of the Clubs - and of course the Trophy.
KAREN KING APPOINTED HERTS BOWLS WOMEN'S VICE PRESIDENT
Many congratulations go to Karen King who, at the Herts Bowls AGM in January, was appointed Vice President of the Women's Section. Karen has been a keen supporter of County bowls and encouraged participation from ladies in our Club. She will prove a worthy ambassador for the County and, of course, for North Mymms Bowls Club.
We wish her every success in her new role.
