NORTH MYMMS TEAM WIN SADBA CHARITY GALA 2024
Well done to Alan and Una Harman and Andrew Parsonage for winning the Strofton Trophy - the prestige prize of the SADBA Charity Gala.
Potters Bar once again excelled in its hospitality by hosting the SADBA Charity Gala for the Strofton Trophy on 12th September with proceeds going to the Charity “Happy Days”.
This year 18 teams gathers on a dry but very chilly September morning but with a forecast of variable weather and, sure enough, the day was later punctuated with some heavy rain showers. That did not spoil the fun as teams of three were gathered to bowl with keen competition and fabulous (and not so fabulous!) bowling throughout the day. Potters Bar as ever provided an excellent lunch and a super green that bowled fast and true.
The result was so close that the top two teams could not be seperated so 1st and 2nd prizes were combined and split between them. The joint winners are:-
“Golden girls” ( Potters Bar): D Jewell, S Jewell, P Rodger
and
“The Plums” (North Mymms): A Harman – U Harman – A Parsonage
DELSA COOPER CUP - Round 1 - 17th August 2024
Another great bowling day on Saturday 17th August when we started our annual match against Hoddesdon & Rye Park in memory of much loved Delsa Cooper who bowled with them and then North Mymms for many years. This was part one of a two part game at North Mymms with the second leg being played at the Hoddeston & Rye Park ground later in the season.
It was a great game in good spirit and fine weather and compliments on the high standard of the green. The honours this time going to Hoddesdon at 85 - 66. But all is not lost! The scores are aggregated over both matches so we are only half way through. North Mymms did have a top rink going to Martin Barson, Sylvia Kenyon, ros Bolt and Graham Stuart. Well done to them.
Terry Atkinson thanked all for attending and said the Spider and raffle money raided £300 and was going to the Chickenshed Trust. Chickenshed benefits your people including those with mobility, behavious or self-help skills or with social development to help them integrate as full members of society. A truly inspiring charity.
AUSTRALIAN PAIRS
The annual Australian pairs game was played on Sunday 26th June, for the Bob Fowler Trophy. 24 Players took part and the scattered showers made it challenging. It was great to see some of our newer members taking part and enjoying the afternoon. Each team played 4 sets of 4 ends, moving to different rinks with each set. There was a spider to begin with, raising money for the Blind Association, which Peter Stokes won.
The winners were Irene O'Brien partnering Bryan Thomas who happens to be a new bowelr to the Club Well done to them both. The runners up this year were Anne Slade and Kevin O’Brien.
A lovely day was rounded off afterwards by super hot dogs prepared by Karen King.
NETHERCOTT TROPHY 2024
Another great win for North Mymms!
On Friday, 10th May, teams from Potters Bar, Harperbury and North Mymms Bowls Clubs played their Annual fixture for the Nethercott Trophy. Four teams from each Club met at Harperbury Bowls Club all hoping to carry off the Trophy.
This fixture has been generously sponsored, since 2012 by Nethercott Funeral Services, who have offices in Potters Bar and Radlett. Charles Nethercott, who has retired from the business, came along with daughters Charlotte and Victoria to watch the game and present the Trophy to the Winners.
Always an enjoyable afternoon with much camaraderie amongst the players, it is a fixture that everyone is keen to play. For the second year running, North Mymms walked away with the Trophy, winning on 3 Rinks and Losing on 1 Rink. Harperbury won on 2 Rinks and Lost on 2 Rinks. Potters Bar won on 1 Rink and lost on 3 Rinks. All of this was rounded off by a meal provided by Harperbury and funded by the Nethercotts as well making a generous donation to each of the Clubs - and of course the Trophy.
