Geoff Matthews Gala
GEOFF MATTHEWS GALA 2025
Once again wse had a superb afternoon with the annual Geoff Matthews Gala this year help on Saturday 20th September. Eight teams of 3 had a great afternoon, in fine weather, in good spirits and, as usual, was highly competitive.
Geof Matthews, with his familly, was with us to watch the matches and to present the trophy.
The clear winners this year were Sue Knight, Peter Stokes and Steve Dean. Amazingly there was a tie for second place resulting in shot difference being the decider. The Result was:
1st Place - 46 points - Job Lots - Peter Stokes, Sue Knight & Steve Dean
2nd Place - 30 points - there were 4 teams all with 30 points so there was a tie break situation with Shot Difference being the decider.
The 4 teams, the shot differences and the resulting placings are below:-
2nd Place - Shot Diff +8 - The Has Beens plus one (Joyce Clark, Frank Hagland, Sue Burbidge)
3rd Place - Shot Diff +3 - The Hopefuls (Ken Norris, Mavis Norris & Phyll Scarborough)
4th Place - Shot Diff +1 - When We's (Pam Bond, Ivan Coleman & Terry Atkinson)
5th Place - Shot Diff +1 - The Matadors (Alan Rathbone, Rose Mathers & Roy Mathews)
The remainibng teams were not far behind them!

GEOFF MATTHEWS GALA 2023
Our first Gala was sponsored by Geoff Matthews with a magnificent trophy was held on 30th July 2023.
14 teams competed for the trophy on what started out as a dry day with but with threats of rain looming. It was a great day with magnificent bowling (and some not so magnificent!) but plenty of good fun and cameraderie. We intended to play 4 rounds but in the end the rain came in after lunch and the day was ended after 3. A presentation was then led by our Chairman with Geoff Matthews presenting the winers with the trophy and informing members of his long standing family relationship with the Club.
Ian Hulley won the spider and a magnificent bottle of scotch also donated by Geoff . The Gala winners were Ivan Coleman, Pam Bond and Sue Burbidge with close runners up Michael Scandrett, Libby Parker and Tracy Woods. Well done to them and all the teams for a great day.
The Day raised over £525 for Charity being sent to Cancer Research. That money came from entry fees, spider money, donations, sales of light refreshments (that had been donated) and a fabulous raffle. Well done to everyone who organised it all.
Let's all look forward to the Geoff Matthews Gala 2024!
